About Sentence Counter
Count sentences, words, characters, paragraphs, lines, reading time, speaking time, and sentence length patterns in browser.
A Sentence Counter is a browser-based writing utility that counts detected sentences in pasted or typed text. It also reports words, characters, characters without spaces, paragraphs, lines, sentence length patterns, reading time, and speaking time. Writers, students, editors, marketers, teachers, and content teams can use it to review drafts, emails, essays, blog posts, scripts, speeches, social media drafts, classroom exercises, and other text without uploading the content to a server.
How to use Sentence Counter
Paste or type text into the input area. The tool analyzes the text locally and updates the sentence count, word count, character count, paragraph count, line count, average sentence length, shortest sentence, longest sentence, reading time, and speaking time. Review the sentence breakdown to see each detected sentence with its word count, character count, and length category. You can copy the original text, copy the analysis summary, copy an individual sentence, or download TXT and CSV analysis files.
Sentence Counter example
A blog editor can paste an article draft and see that it has 42 sentences, 880 words, 6 paragraphs, and an average of 21 words per sentence. The breakdown may reveal several very long sentences, while the distribution shows whether most sentences are short, medium, or long. The editor can then focus on the longest sentences before publishing.

Helpful questions
How do I count sentences in a paragraph?
Paste the paragraph into the Sentence Counter. The tool detects sentence boundaries, filters punctuation-only fragments, and shows the total sentence count with word, character, paragraph, and line statistics.
Does the tool also count words and characters?
Yes. It counts words, total characters, characters excluding whitespace, paragraphs, lines, reading time, and speaking time in addition to sentences.
What counts as a sentence?
A sentence is counted when the detector finds a meaningful text unit that ends with sentence punctuation or appears as an unpunctuated sentence-like line or remaining text. Punctuation-only fragments are not counted.
Does the tool recognize abbreviations?
It makes a reasonable browser-side effort to avoid splitting common abbreviations such as Dr., Mr., Prof., e.g., i.e., vs., initials, decimals, URLs, and email addresses. Edge cases can still vary.
